Winix 5500-2 Discontinued in Canada — What to Buy Instead (2026)

The Winix 5500-2 is gone from Canadian shelves. Here's how the 5510 compares spec-by-spec, how long Filter A (#115115) stays available, and the exact model to buy now.

The Winix 5500-2 was the most popular air purifier in Canada for three consecutive years — stocked at Costco, Best Buy, and Canadian Tire nationwide. As of early 2025, Winix has discontinued it in favour of the 5510. Here's everything you need to know.

Why was the 5500-2 discontinued?

Winix hasn't issued a formal statement, but the pattern is clear: the 5510 launched in late 2023 with Wi-Fi, an improved AOC carbon pellet filter, and a refreshed CADR of 253 CFM (up from 243). The 5500-2 was simply phased out. It's a generational refresh — not a response to any quality issue.

5500-2 vs 5510: what actually changed

Spec5500-2 (discontinued)5510 (current)
Smoke CADR240 CFM253 CFM
Dust CADR243 CFM261 CFM
Coverage360 sq ft392 sq ft
Wi-FiNoYes (Winix Smart app)

Price (Amazon.ca)Discontinued~$229–$249

For real-world air cleaning, the difference is modest — 5% more CADR, 8% more coverage. The meaningful upgrades are Wi-Fi (schedule it to run at max before you wake up) and the pelletized carbon filter, which outperforms the 5500-2's flat sheet for kitchen and pet odours.

Will 5500-2 replacement filters still be available?

Yes — for now. The 5500-2 uses Filter A (part #115115), which is shared with the C535, AM80, AM90, and several other current Winix models. As long as those models sell in Canada, Filter A will remain available. Based on past Winix discontinuations (the 5300-2, 6300-2), filters typically stay on Amazon.ca for 3–5 years after a model is retired.

Filter A part number: 115115. Search this on Amazon.ca or order from winixcanada.com. Third-party compatible filters are available at 40–50% less (brands: PUREBURG, Lemige).

I already own a 5500-2 — should I upgrade?

If your 5500-2 is working well, there's no urgent reason to upgrade. It still cleans air effectively. The case for upgrading to the 5510:

  • You want to schedule it via app (useful for wildfire season)
  • Pet or cooking odours are a concern — the pelletized carbon is noticeably better
  • Your 5500-2 is more than 3 years old and the motor has worn

If you're buying new, don't hunt for a 5500-2 on Marketplace — the 5510 is the same price and better in every spec.

Our recommendation

Buy the Winix 5510 — it's the direct successor and available now on Amazon.ca with Prime shipping. If budget is a concern, the C545 at Costco (~$149.99 with 2 years of filters) remains the best value in the lineup.
